Balancing Interests Amid Intense Lobbying: The legislation has faced intense lobbying from both European startups like Mistral AI and Aleph Alpha and US tech giants such as Google and Microsoft. Watchdogs have warned that corporate lobbying could potentially dilute the act’s provisions. However, Commissioner Breton assured that the EU has withstood these pressures, maintaining a balanced, risk-based, and future-proof regulation.

Compliance and Penalties: The new rules will take effect 12 months after official publication, with most provisions becoming mandatory within two years.
